As we get closer to the warmer months, I find myself daydreaming about getting out of the workshop and hitting the road. Whether it’s a quick weekend trip to a nearby state park or a longer trek across the country, there’s something about summer travel that just feels different. It’s supposed to be relaxing, right? But if you’re anything like me, the actual "traveling" part, the airports, the busy boardwalks, the hiking trails, can sometimes feel a bit chaotic.
There is nothing quite as frustrating as standing at a ticket counter or a trailhead and realizing you’ve buried your phone, your ID, or your itinerary at the very bottom of a massive backpack. I’ve been there more times than I care to admit. Little did I know, when I first started The Kilted Leatherworker LLC, that I would eventually spend so much time solving this exact problem for myself and for you.
Today, I want to talk about what I call the "Pro-Traveler Setup." It’s a combination of two of my favorite things to make: the leather belt pouch and the mini padfolio. Together, they create a hands-free, organized experience that honestly changes the way you move through the world.
The Freedom of Going Hands-Free
When you’re on vacation, your hands should be free to hold a cold drink, take a photo, or maybe just stay in your pockets while you take in the view. I’ve always felt that carrying a heavy shoulder bag or a bulky backpack in the summer heat is a recipe for a sweaty back and sore shoulders.

Think about those moments when you need quick access to a physical hotel confirmation, a printed map for a remote hike, or even just a place to jot down a recommendation from a local you met at a bar. My mini padfolios are designed to be compact. They aren't those giant binders you see in corporate boardrooms. They are slim enough to slide into a pocket or be carried easily in one hand.
