The Kilted Leatherworker was born from two things that rarely travel alone: a deep love of handcraft and the kind of real-life pressure that turns a hobby into a calling. When family medical expenses demanded more than a day job could provide, founder Eric Tankersley turned to the workbench — and to the leather tools he'd long used for the joy of it. What started as a way to make ends meet became something far more enduring: a small-batch leather goods business built on skill, integrity, and full-grain leather that only gets better with time.

Every piece that leaves this shop is cut, tooled, and finished by hand — one at a time, made to order. There are no production runs, no overseas factories, no shortcuts. Each wallet, belt pouch, journal cover, and accessory is shaped using heritage leatherworking techniques passed down through generations of craftspeople. When you order from The Kilted Leatherworker, your piece doesn't exist until you ask for it. That's intentional.
About the Name
The kilt isn't a costume — it's a nod to Scottish heritage and the pride that comes with wearing your identity openly. The Kilted Leatherworker carries that same spirit: unapologetically handmade, rooted in tradition, and built for people who value things that last.
Materials That Matter
We work exclusively with premium full-grain vegetable-tanned leather — the highest grade available, and the only kind worth putting your name on. Unlike corrected-grain or bonded leathers, full-grain retains the natural surface of the hide, developing a rich patina over years of use. Vegetable tanning, an ancient process using plant-based tannins, produces leather that is firm, durable, and free of the harsh chemicals found in chrome-tanned alternatives. It takes longer. It costs more. It's worth it.
