Hi there! I’m Penny, and if you’re anything like me, you might have just realized that Father’s Day is literally right around the corner. (Don't worry, your secret is safe with me!) It’s that time of year when we all start scratching our heads, wondering how to show the dads, grandpas, and father figures in our lives that we truly appreciate them without just grabbing another generic "Best Dad" mug from a big-box store.
I know the feeling. You want something that feels personal, something that has a story, and, most importantly, something that won't fall apart by next Christmas. That’s exactly why I’m so excited to tell you about what we have planned for this weekend.
If you’re in the Houston area and feeling the "last-minute" pressure, I have the perfect solution for you. We’re going to be out in the sunshine at the Memorial Villages Farmers Market, and I’d love for you to stop by.
Where and When to Find Us
Before we dive into the gift ideas, let's get the logistics out of the way so you can plan your Saturday morning.
- What: Memorial Villages Farmers Market
- When: Saturday, June 20th, 2026
- Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Perfect timing to grab a gift and still have the whole day ahead of you!)
- Where: First Congregational Church, 10840 Beinhorn Road, Hunters Creek Village, TX 77024
There’s something about a Saturday morning market that just feels right. It’s like a cold, refreshing cream soda on a hot Texas afternoon, crisp, sweet, and exactly what you need. (I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker, but give me a craft soda and I’m a happy writer!)
Why Handmade Leather is the Ultimate "Dad Gift"
I spend a lot of time thinking about what makes a gift "good." In a world of fast fashion and plastic everything, there’s a real hunger for things that are made with honest materials. When you hold a piece of full-grain leather, you can feel the history. You can see the care in every hand-placed stitch.
Dads, in particular, seem to appreciate things that work hard. They like tools that get better with age, not things that need to be replaced every few months. Every item we make at The Kilted Leatherworker is designed to be an heirloom. We aren’t interested in "good enough", we’re interested in "unconditionally loved."
Here are a few of my personal favorites that we’ll have ready for you at the market this Saturday.
1. The Highland Nomad | For the Adventurous Dad

Does your dad love the outdoors? Is he the type to go for a hike, spend the day at a festival, or maybe he's even a kilt-wearer himself? If so, you have to check out The Highland Nomad.
Formerly known simply as our Buffalo Belt Pouch, this piece is inspired by traditional Scottish sporrans but updated for the modern adventurer. It’s crafted from a mix of premium buffalo and cow leather. I love the way these two hides play off each other, one providing incredible durability and water resistance, and the other adding a refined, rugged look.
It fits belts up to 2.75 inches wide, which means it’s perfect for hands-free carry. It’s just the right size for a phone, a wallet, and a set of keys. Plus, buffalo leather develops this amazing, deep patina over time. It’s a gift that will literally look better ten years from now than it does today.
2. The Chronicler’s Cover | For the Reflective Dad

There is something so timeless about a man who keeps a journal. Whether he’s sketching out plans for a woodworking project, taking notes on a trip, or just keeping a daily log, The Chronicler’s Cover is a beautiful way to protect those thoughts.
This was previously our Burgundy Leather Journal Cover, and it remains one of our absolute bestsellers for a reason. That rich burgundy color is just... wow. It’s sophisticated without being flashy. We use premium full-grain leather and reinforce the stitching by hand to ensure it can be swapped from notebook to notebook for decades.
It fits standard A5 journals, so even if he already has a favorite brand of notebook, this sleeve will likely fit it like a glove. It’s a gift that encourages a moment of quiet reflection, something every dad could probably use more of!
3. The Burgundy Wrinkle Minimalist Wallet | For the Practical Dad

Is your dad still carrying around one of those "Costanza" wallets that’s three inches thick and hurting his back? It’s time for an upgrade.
The Burgundy Wrinkle Minimalist Wallet is all about function and refined carry. It’s designed to live in the front pocket, which is much better for posture and security. It holds multiple cards and folded cash, all kept safe by a sturdy antique brass snap closure.

I personally love the "wrinkle" texture on this specific leather. It gives the wallet a unique, broken-in feel right from day one. It’s small, it’s mighty, and it’s a daily reminder of your appreciation every time he reaches for his ID or a card.
4. The Wayfarer’s Tote | For the Dad Who Does It All

If your dad is the "prepared for anything" type, he needs a bag that can keep up. The Wayfarer’s Tote (you might remember it as our Rustic Tote) is a absolute workhorse.
This isn't your average tote bag. It’s hand-stitched with a structured silhouette that’s spacious enough for a laptop, books, or even some gear for a weekend getaway. The handles are reinforced because we know this bag is going to be loaded down.
What I love most about the Wayfarer is how it softens over time. The leather starts out sturdy and protective, and as it travels with you, it becomes more supple and personalized to your movements. It’s the ultimate "carry-all" for the man who values both style and substance.
See You Saturday!
I know I’ve been talking a lot about the products, but honestly, my favorite part of the Memorial Villages market is getting to meet you all in person. There is something so special about handing over a piece of leatherwork and knowing exactly who it’s going to.
Little did I know when I started writing for Eric that I’d become so obsessed with the "why" behind every stitch. But once you see these pieces in person, once you smell the leather and feel the weight of the brass hardware, you’ll understand why we’re so passionate about what we do.
So, if you’re still looking for that perfect Father’s Day gift, come say hi this Saturday! We’ll be the ones with the kilted vibes and the best-smelling booth in the church parking lot. Grab a ginger ale or a root beer, wander through the stalls, and let’s find something your dad will cherish forever.
Thank you so much for supporting small-scale craftsmanship. It truly means the world to us.
Warmly,
Penny
