A few years ago, I realized something that changed how I work and how I live: my digital notes were disappearing into a void. I’d type something, save it, and then never think about it again. It felt temporary. It felt… shallow.
There’s a specific kind of magic that happens when you sit down with a piece of paper and a pen. But for that magic to really take hold, you need a place for those thoughts to live. That’s why I started making leather journal covers.

When I talk about "honest materials," I’m talking about things that don't lie to you. Plastic is meant to look like metal; "genuine leather" is often just ground-up scraps glued together with a coating.
At The Kilted Leatherworker, I use full-grain leather. This is the top layer of the hide: the strongest and most durable part. It has all the natural marks and character of the animal’s life. When you hold a cover like the The Chronicler’s Cover, you’re holding something real.
Unlike a digital app that can be deleted or a phone that will be obsolete in three years, full-grain leather is built to outlast you. It doesn't break when you drop it. It doesn't need a software update. In fact, it actually gets better with age.
The Beauty of the Patina
In the digital world, we’re obsessed with everything staying brand new. We put cases on our phones to keep them from getting a single scratch. But with a leather journal cover, every scratch and scuff is part of the story.
